This infographic project explores the shocking scale of food waste in the United States, presented through a combination of data visualization, iconography, and narrative storytelling. I developed the concept after witnessing the waste firsthand while working at one of Illinois’ largest grocery chains.
As someone who grew up in the Philippines—where hunger and poverty often drive people to live near landfills to access discarded food—this project was deeply personal. The contrast between food scarcity and the volume of waste I was forced to throw out daily left a lasting impact. This design aims to highlight food waste not just as a logistical failure, but as a moral, environmental, and economic crisis.
The goal of this piece is to raise awareness, spark conversation, and push for systemic change—using design as a tool for advocacy.
